Orange, Pear, and Cranberry Jammie Dodgers

Cookies Sandwich Cookie Shortbread

These Jammie Dodgers were born out of my love for Doctor Who (because what Whovian doesn’t remember or love the scene where the Eleventh Doctor tries to ward off the Daleks with a Jammie Dodger?!), my love for winter fruits, and my love of all things British. Funnily enough, I never had a Jammie Dodger while …

Blackout Chocolate Shortbread Sandwich Cookies

Cookies Sandwich Cookie Shortbread

This week’s cookie is the perfect recipe to roll out just days before Halloween.  For one thing, they are all about the chocolate.  And let’s be real–who doesn’t dig through their candy haul at the end of the night in search of something chocolatey?  (I was all about those Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Snickers …

Hot Toddy Shortbread Cookies

Cookies Shortbread

As the weather starts to drop, it’s not surprising to feel a tickle at the back of the throat or a bit of congestion.  One of my favorite remedies for a sore throat has become the Hot Toddy.  The hot water, whiskey, lemon, and honey combination is just perfectly soothing.  I always like to take …

Coffee, Sage, and Maple Millionaire’s Shortbread

Cookies Shortbread

Surprise, surprise.  Another week and another return to some of my favorite obsessions: Glasgow/Scotland, coffee, and the Great British Bake Off. My introduction to Millionaire’s Shortbread came when I was 21 and studying in Glasgow.  Every time I walked down Sauchiehall Street and into City Centre, I would walk by the window for Bradford’s Tea Room …

Biscuit Cookies Shortbread

It’s already mid-September and I am so ready for the fall weather to finally arrive.  I’ve pretty much been trying to force it along by baking things with apples and chai and drinking all the hot coffee I can.  I am already four seasons into my annual autumn Gilmore Girls re-watch (because really, it’s the best season …

Buckwheat Peanut Butter & Banana Shortbread Cookies

Biscuit Cookies Shortbread

First, there were the Fluffernutter Cookies.  Now, there are these Buckwheat Peanut Butter and Banana Shortbread Cookies.  Apparently I just like to throw the flavors of my favorite peanut butter-based sandwiches into cookie form. I just can’t help it.  Where the Fluffernutter Cookies were heavily inspired by a nostalgia-inciting sandwich, these take after one of …

Back in 2011, my friends and I stayed up all night to watch the Royal Wedding. We’d just come off a night out at the end of our senior year and probably all managed to fit in a two-hour nap in some of my friends’ house (otherwise known as Mildred).  We gathered on the couch–and …

Cookies Shortbread

In my very first post, I expressed my love for Schmackary’s–a New York cookie shop that I absolutely fell in love with shortly after moving to the city.  However, it wasn’t the only cookie place I became obsessed with.  During a playwrights meeting at the theater, a few of the members were discussing their favorite …

Irish Coffee Shortbread Sandwiches

Cookies Sandwich Cookie Shortbread

San Francisco is one of those cities that has somehow become synonymous with Irish Coffee thanks to the Buena Vista and its place in the drink’s origin stories. The real, lesser known tale, tells the story of Joe Sheridan–the bartender who brought Irish Coffee to the Buena Vista–and the passengers of a Pan Am flight that was forced to turn around and land due to bad weather. Cold and tired in Foynes, Ireland, Sheridan was called in to warm the passengers up; he slipped some Irish whiskey into their coffee, topped it off with a pouring cream. When someone asked him if the coffee was Brazilian, Sheridan said, “No, it was Irish coffee!”

Blood Orange, Basil, and Bourbon Shortbread

Cookies Shortbread

Can we talk about blood oranges for a minute? This fruit is so unbelievably gorgeous.  As a child, I was always thrown off by the name.  ‘Blood’ oranges.  As much as I tried to convince my nephews and younger cousins that my aversion to sunlight was due to my being a vampire, I never really …
